| 24806 | 2001-11-18 02:46:00 | thanks for your replies - tried everything, but doesnt recognises any hd on primary ide, but ok on secondary. is it ok to run the hard drive & dvd (slave) on the secondary ide? would those new pci raid cards be ok to use in this case? thanks again, susan | Guest (0) | ||

| 24809 | 2001-11-18 03:43:00 | does it recognise a cd rom on the primary ide? also check that nothing is shorting out the connections and that the tracks on the back of the board are not scratched. raid cards are very nice but not cheap and you will require a minimum of two hardrives. however a ata 100 card will be fine with a sigle drive and are a lot cheaper. however it would help if you could tell us what motherboard it is. it may just be a 'known issue' with an easy fix. |

If that is so then in Windows Device Manager I would have thought that there would be some indication of this against the primary ide controller device, or under properties a statement that the device is not working. If there is no way to get the primary ide working, and you dont want to get another board, then an ATA 66/100 controller card would give you the extra IDE connectors you may need. |
