1282987 2012-06-20 10:33:00 My IE was set up to point to Google for its home page. Recently, when invoking IE, the URL has been set to Works as expected if I manually key in Google's URL. I can not set Google as my home page because it reverts to http:///" target="_blank">/ which results in an error message. Works as expected if I manually key in Google's URL. I can not set Google as my home page because it reverts to http: when I next invoke IE.
many thanks for any solution for this anoying problem :)

1282989 2012-06-20 11:50:00 Should be '' not 'http:
Google should be https://www.google.co.nz/
Note the 's' which indicates that it is a secure site.

1282990 2012-06-21 00:57:00 Navigate to the page you want, go to settings, internet options, click the use current under homepage.

If you've done that or similar and it keeps changing then it's likely some bit of malware is hijacking your homepage, try scanning with a couple of anti-malware tools such as spybot, MBAM, or super anti-spyware and do a full virus scan as well (you have an anti-virus right?)

1282991 2012-06-21 09:06:00 I agree with the previous opinions.

However I have seen the http:/// problem before. Apparantly sometimes this occurs with IE with a bad DNS server, or bad proxy setting.

It's worth double checking with your ISP for the proxy and DNS settings (if any)

1282992 2012-06-21 09:51:00 Thank you for your reply. I have done this repeatedly, keying in Google's URL, Facebook, the default which points to a Microsoft site, use current, and even use blank (about:blank).
After closing IE tools/internet options and then reopening IE, the URL has been reset to http:/// again, with an acompanying error message incorrect address, or cannot display this address. Ah well, back to the drawing board...

1282993 2012-06-21 09:55:00 Yup.... and kept up to date with the latest libraries. I have run AVG_Antivirus and AdAware a couple of times... Neither reported any spyware or malware. I will install those you mention and try again. Thanks for the advice :) mogget (13802)
1282994 2012-06-21 10:10:00 Do let us know, that is interesting! :) adslgeek (14687)
1282995 2012-07-15 02:21:00 Still no joy :( Have tried a number of rootkit removal tools, anti virus and anti malware suits. The problem remains as an unconnectable url "http:///" with message on the webpage "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" when I first invoke IE. Strange thing is, I can't seem to find any reference to the http with three slashes url on the internet.
Having opened a dead webpage, I can sellect any of my favourite sites or history URLs, and the will populate the Address Bar as expected, and allow normal browsing etc. Anyone out there have any suggestions?

In the right pane, for "www", make sure the "Data" value is set to " If it is not, right-click on the "www" and click "Modify". In the "Value Data" box, type (without quotes) "http://"" target="_blank">". If it is not, right-click on the "www" and click "Modify". In the "Value Data" box, type (without quotes) "http: and click OK.
