1260554 2012-02-21 18:32:00 Anyone out there like to give me some feedback on TelstraClear?

I’m looking at this $75 month Phone + Data package they're advertising. I was with them back in the Dial-Up days, (but I think it may only have been Clear then) and they were diabolical.

I’m presently with Kinect (Trustpower) and they were excellent up to a year or so ago when I figure they got a new IT wiz who decided to fix what wasn’t broken. It’s been a shambles since right down to their Spam Filter declaring their own monthly account Spam and dumping it in the Spam Folder. Despite having told them about it every month for the last six months my last account still went there. On top of that they have blocked me sending from Outlook Express when I’m in Aus. I can receive but not send. Lot of good that is, and as a bonus their Webmail facility is prehistoric.

I guess you can tell I’m damn displeased with the way a once great ISP has been stuffed. However, I’m not one for jumping out of the frying pan into the fire, so I thought some of you who use TelstraClear may be kind enough to give me a Heads-Up on them. :thanks

1260555 2012-02-21 18:57:00 To be honest I find Slingshot good.
I left Clear as I was fed up subsidising the owners, Slingshot deal a 1/3 less.

1260556 2012-02-21 19:06:00 Normally you cant send from a NZ email account (from another country). This applies to any ISP. Not just Kinect. You cant do it in NZ either (If you go to someone else's place and theyre not on the same ISP (as you). And if you try and send email with your email info, it'll probably get blocked as well).

You'll have to use web based email. Or add something like Gmail to your email, and use that. I'm with TC atm, but not on the one you posted. I'll probably have to wait till Dec this year to change to something else (since I'm on a 2 yr contract). But, its a lot better than the ISP I was with (Xnet). Which went downhill, after they added a torrent plan

We prefer Kinect (trustpower). Before that we were with telstraclear. We like Kinect, because we have no data cap (the Full speed, no data cap Plan.) it's like $100, but we can afford it, and we are heavy internet users. We get it cheaper too as our power is with them. We once had an indian dude from telstra come to our door, and he was getting pissed off, as he couldn't give us a better deal.

1260558 2012-02-21 19:13:00 Clear in wellington was nice, I was never using it enough to give a proper verdict though. Seemed stable with 20ms ping to wellington Speedtest server, stable 8mps down 1 up.

On orcon now. Similar to Cicero, with orcon I have had nothing but good service and excellent speeds. Although others sometimes report problems, also their Genius has had issues for some. Same with his slingshot. He's good but others have problems.

Well I did it for years before they killed it recently . :D

All I had to do was go to Outlook Express – Tools – Accounts – Mail – Properties – Server and change the (Outgoing Mail) SMTP to “mail . bigpond . com” and we were away .

Worked like a dream for years .

I realise I could use Hotmail / G-Mail etc but changing my E-Mail address is not an option unless I change providers and then I’ll have to I guess . :annoyed:

1260560 2012-02-21 19:43:00 They probably figured out that you didnt have a bigpond account Speedy Gonzales (78)
1260561 2012-02-21 19:45:00 If I get an email saying that x has a new address, I simply right click on it and add to my contact, then delete old one, that shouldn't tax your people.! Cicero (40)

Bollocks.
Unauthenticated SMTP from 'foreign' (to the ISP network) addresses is quite rightly rejected.
If you simply use an authenticated SMTP connection method there is (usually) no problem from anywhere outside your home network.

Becuase you were using a bigpond IP and they allowed 'anonymous SMTP' from their own network, which they have now stopped, probably due to increasing abuse by spammers (like you :) ).
