Strange that the Scandinavian counties do quite well with populations like NZ.. The last thing we need is 10 mil people living here. Look at Auckland aver the past 20 years with all the 3rd world immigration.. Repeat that NZ wide.. |

| 1260081 | 2012-02-22 20:08:00 | I'm against population growth, not just in NZ but worldwide. There are what, 6 billion or so people in the world? It's more than enough. Almost all the problems in the world can be simplified down to too many people wanting the same resources. I would rather live in a country that is not overcrowded than have cheap broadband if it came to a choice between the two. The world is a finite space with limited resources, the population cannot grow endlessly without consequence. War, famine, plague, pollution, mass extinction of plants and animals, destruction of the enviroment. All are consequences of mindless expansion and will happen if we blindly continue down this path. Not in my lifetime though so I don't really get upset about it - which is probably the real issue. This obsession with growing the population is largely about greed, sure it benefits businesses at all levels and makes products and services cheaper for the masses, but the cost isn't worth it. Mini rant over. |
