1260057 2012-02-20 19:57:00 But I have always known that we would all be better off with more people here.
Please explain how we would be better off.

1260058 2012-02-20 20:21:00 All to do with numbers.

Say you were the only one in NZ, you find the shopping rather bad.

And broadband even worse.

1260059 2012-02-20 21:24:00 on twitter people are talking about ringing telco's all on the same day.

"Call to action, no more data caps, Feb 29 call your telco and make it clear, no more data caps."

Cicero puts it rather well.

If we had 4 times the population...
There would be 4 times as many of us to pay for
One prime Minister
One road from Auckland to Wellington etc
26 Ministers
20 goverment heads of department
For times as many people to pay for fat cat CEO's (so hopefully they could charge us less to pay them the same)
Any business that sold Nationwide would have 4 times the sales, making everything much more economic.
Our artists would have 4 times as many people to show, exhibit and sing to.

I could go on.

I suspect it will only result in a whole lot more people being stuck in an automated system telling them "Your call is important to us. Please hold the line".

1260063 2012-02-21 04:25:00 We really are a laughing stock when it comes to broadband pricing and data caps and rural access and mobile phone rates.

Lets hope that now John Key is hearing about it, and Stephen Fry has rattled some people and that the new minister at a broadband conference today, make sure things keep happening - faster.

The gutless Commerce Commision forced a small drop in the termination rates for mobile, but they are still too high which is why 2 Degrees can't lower its prices anymore.

And I see that in the UK their government is complaining that UK mobile rates are too high!

All sounds very good but I would be willing to place a bet that things wouldn't work out the way you think. While some things would be better I think the negatives would out way the positives.

Nothing like a good objective argument, pity it is lacking here.

NZ is 30 times bigger than Singa and Singa has 5 million people, who by the way are the 3rd richest per capita bods on earth.

Drive forn Ch Ch to queenstown, there is no bugger there.
