1259900 2012-02-20 05:19:00 I say milk it for all its worth...you will after all be looking after her in her retirement :)

Have a look on the jbhifi website...quick browse shows a Samsung and Panasonic for under $500. Not sure if it meets the spec's you're after though.

I was completely blown away that she even wanted to get me a new TV. She said it's cause it'll be my 16th birthday in march.

Just talked to her, and dad, and she agrees that she doesn't want one from the craphouse, and that we'll get one from the likes of dicks or jb etc..

I started this thread, so i could weight up the pro's and cons of different tv's. I want my mum to get the best deal she can. I don't want her paying heaps of money for something she can get cheaper from another model etc.. I very well could be the only money frugal teenager in NZ. I count every penny, and always make sure i get the best deal i can.

For a while my dad was sick in the 2005 to 2007 period and we lived on almost nothing, along with job hunting the last few years, so that is probably why i worry about money. I feel guilty even if my mum get's the likes of KFC or macca's, even though i shouldn't.

Though enough about my frugal ways with money, back on topic.

1259901 2012-02-20 05:46:00 Imo you didnt have to justify that. Certain people should just answer the question that was asked. icow (15313)
1259902 2012-02-20 06:01:00 TV choosing? Go have a look at them. You want to see side by side what gives a good picture. Then price hunt that model. These days most of them are HD, so FV is your only limiting factor. Why not have a FV STB though? The Error Guy (14052)
1259903 2012-02-20 06:32:00 What is it with some people?!

His Mother has offered to get him a TV for his birthday, and why not. There is no reason why he can't have a say in what model either.

If you can only post judgmental comments, then don't post it.

I'm guessing STB is set top box? if so, it'll be cheaper and easier to get a tele with it built in. I've already got enough box type things (dvd players, vhs etc..). The uhf boxes cost over 100 bucks from what i've seen.

I just like the idea of freeview automatically built in, so i don't have to get any more hardware.

1259905 2012-02-20 08:00:00 But with freeview built in you will not be able to record anything will you? Snorkbox (15764)

Ye Olde VHS is the answer

1259907 2012-02-20 08:13:00 So what do you hook the VHS to? What outputs on the TV?

Also won't you have to have the TV on and you wouldn't be able to record one programme and watch one?

I don't watch enough tv to care about that stuff.

Those first world problems... Man i hate them :p

But seriously good point, you should probably consider this. TV's still use AV right?
