1260564 2012-02-21 20:08:00 They probably figured out that you didnt have a bigpond account

But I do have a bigpond account . They are my ISP when I'm in Aus .

All I want to do is use Outlook Express to handle my NZ Mail at Kinect . As I said earlier, I can receive fine, just can't send now .

Used to work fine until someone fixed it . :groan:

1260565 2012-02-21 20:14:00 Set OE to use a supported auth method (ask them or look on their website). It should then work from anywhere. fred_fish (15241)
1260566 2012-02-21 20:30:00 Becuase you were using a bigpond IP and they allowed 'anonymous SMTP' from their own network, which they have now stopped, probably due to increasing abuse by spammers (like you :) ).

Spam may well have something to do with it (but not from me) because as I mentioned in my first post their handling of Spam now is an absolute joke. Used to be excellent until they fixed that too.

Now they even put their own Accounts in my Spam Folder along with my Daughters mail if she sends it from her iPhone. This is despite me having White Listed both of them. :groan:

Shame really, almost looks like Xtra or another one of the opposition has managed to infiltrate with a “Plant” to bring them down to their level. :D

You've got me there Fred. Can you explain a bit further? :)

Also I've been with Telstra / Clear for years, on cable with Phone/Net/TV and have found them excellent.

Thanks Fred, I take it the tick in the box “My Server Requires Authentication” is the operative here?

I’m back in NZ at the moment so can’t try it, but I have ticked it so we’ll see.

In the meantime, they are excelling themselves yet again with part of their service down for 5 Days. Never thought to put a date so we know whether it’s 5 days from when. :groan: I guess that’s in case it’s down for 10 days. :D3603

Dahhhh, they’ve lost the plot.

1260570 2012-02-21 21:54:00 If you say so

Have you not heard of SSL speedy
How do you think people send mail with their normal ISP account when using smart phones on different wireless connections.

1260571 2012-02-21 21:57:00 Well I did it for years before they killed it recently. :D

All I had to do was go to Outlook Express – Tools – Accounts – Mail – Properties – Server and change the (Outgoing Mail) SMTP to “mail.bigpond.com” and we were away.

Worked like a dream for years.

I realise I could use Hotmail / G-Mail etc but changing my E-Mail address is not an option unless I change providers and then I’ll have to I guess. :annoyed:
You don't have to change your email address to use GMail it just becomes another one and can be usefull as a spam box when signing up for things as Gmails spam filter is excellent.
I've been with TelstraClear for a few years now and have had an excellent run with them. Have never needed to use their help line so don't know how that goes.

1260572 2012-02-21 22:27:00 I’m presently with Kinect (Trustpower) and they were excellent up to a year or so ago when I figure they got a new IT wiz who decided to fix what wasn’t broken.

Trustpower used to resell Maxnet, but now they are their own ISP.

1260573 2012-02-21 22:39:00 I've signed up the the $75 deal at home.
Just waiting for it to be connected now.
We've been paying Telecom about $50 a month for phone line and averaging about $60 a month with Xnet for internet.
Xnet usage has only been around 20-30GB too so 40GB would have cost about $10 more.
So we will save a lot of money each month for the next 12 months at least anyway.
Plus we were still on the old River plan with Xnet so uploads were limited to 128k and I had been meaning to change this so again that was going to cost another $5 a month.
Hopefully download speeds are as good as they were with Xnet, on TelstraClear,
