1259985 2012-02-19 23:12:00 The primary issue is the children. They can't help being born to criminal parents. If these children are neglected and we can do nothing to help them, we simply allow another generation of criminals to arrive.
Agreed we need to do something to try and break the cycle but these days that is next to impossible.

That may be true Winston but you’ve overlooked the fact that this is only about the children of Maori Prisoners. No mention of the children of Pakeha Prisoners. They’re obviously unimportant.

So we have a situation yet again where the Maori expect special favours.

Well, they have been given over 2.5 Billion dollars by the State already to appease their every wish, so as I suggested earlier, they should put their hand in their own pocket and attend to their own special issues.

God knows where all the money has gone, but it clearly hasn’t trickled down to the Rank & File.

1259987 2012-02-19 23:47:00 It's true that many kids lack good role models, and their family life practivcally leads them straight to crime.

I once had a client who brought her young boy along. He played with a toy car while we got on with the work.
Most young kids would make "Brrrrm Brrrrrm" noises, or make some exclaimation about it being a racing car in their imagination.
This kid kept repeating "Stolen car, stolen car".

They've now built a prison near his home town, so at least he'll be nearer to family whether he's inside or outside the bars.

1259988 2012-02-19 23:58:00 I got this link from a mate who is equally p….d of with the bludgers.

Quite heavy reading, but very enlightening. Make a cuppa before you start. :D

Seems to me they owe us!

HERE (www.nzcpr.com)

Haven't read all of it, but that looks interesting. It's also interesting to see the "Final Settlements" the long-suffering taxpayer has funded over the years. What would be more interesting would be to discover whether any of the previous settlements cover claims that have been more recently settled (or are being settled currently) - that would indeed prove the rort beyond all doubt.

Oh yeah, plenty of final/final/final settlements.

Section 5. The document really is staggering reading. I've read it twice and it was far worse the second read. I'm a bit scared to read it a third time.

Talk about what we've never been told.

Anyway, I'm glad at least a couple of us have found it enlightening.
