1283223 2012-06-21 11:01:00 dust? i sued to have a problem with apples mighty mouse because it's cord was so rigid that when i let go of it it would move itself to a position. the cord was kind of looped on my desk behind the keyboard. These could be possibilities or maybe your desk is on a massave angle. Slankydudl (16687)

1283226 2012-06-21 20:32:00 I used to call it a 'mouse kick', coz it happened a lot when playing Doom, and it was like being kicked in the game. The mouse in an instant goes to a far right corner (top right it used to be for me). THe in-game result would be my character would suddenly be looking at the ceiling and spinning like a balerina.

Damned annoying, and it would happen in Windows as well, eventually with increasing frequency until the mouse was replaced, and happened with multiple mice as well.

The weird thing seemed to be that the more often I played Doom, the more often it would become a problem.
Either way, it's hardware or driver issues. My own suspicion being a damaged wire in the mouse cable giving erroneous or intermitent signals.

However, if the mouse just slowly drifts to the right, then maybe your mouse surface is too shiney. They can get freaky on a reflective or speckled surface.
Best mouse pad I've ever had for a laser mouse is actually an A4 size envelope stuck to the desk.

1283227 2012-06-21 21:05:00 Try cleaning it and using a mouse pad of some sort (just in case it is a surface problem), paper will do) to see the problem reoccurs.

If you are not using the mouse (leave it still) will it shoot off? The other thing is sometimes (esp if the room is dark) you can tell when the mouse is "active" because the laser gets brighter and in "low power mode/idle" because it dims. see if it lights up just before the cursor blasts off to the corner, if it does that would indicate it is picking up a false image (they use a camera to "see")

1283228 2012-06-21 22:05:00 I've had a couple of OCZ mice do similar things before dying. A 50 and 70 dollar mouse both lasted a few months before completely carking it mid game on counterstrike, oddly enough they both did it during cs_assault. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)
1283229 2012-06-21 23:53:00 A couple of possibilities, the response time of the mouse gives it a maximum movement speed before it gets confused, and sometimes a small hair gets trapped in front of the lens and moves around as you move the mouse, occasionally springing back and creating random movements .

Other than that maybe it's a driver issue or a fault . I recall seeing online somewhere people altering settings to improve resposiveness in games which might help, but I don't recall the details .

1283230 2012-06-22 00:17:00 I recall reading in a magazine once where someone's joystick was interfering with their mouse. Agent_24 (57)
1283231 2012-06-22 00:39:00 I am embarrassed to have checked it, and there was a cat hair over the light... I was looking for all the tricky options, but no. It was the simple one...

THANKS GUYS!!
