2012-06-18 22:54:00 | Hi All I bought a Brother MFC-J6910DW printer/scanner a few months ago at a reasonable price of $ 300.-. The first set of cartridges did not last long at all and I have been made aware that those are supposedly for demo purposes . Well I fell over when I bought the first "real set" of refills. The cost for a set(4) is $ 168.- plus gst. More than half of the new printer costs. I do not know any other daylight robbery to that extend!

2012-06-18 22:57:00 | our ink cartridges are about $33 for the black and $50ish for the colours for our brother printer | GameJunkie (72) | |
2012-06-18 23:08:00 | Not long to go and we rather dispose of the printer and empty cartridges and buy a whole new set. Makes sense:D | notechyet (4479) | |
2012-06-18 23:17:00 | Now you know why printers are cheap. Its always been that way unfortunately. Next time try Cartridge World maybe. | Clod (7853) | |
2012-06-18 23:25:00 | this is quite common. one company sells a printer for $99 and the ink for $150. I always recommend a B/W laser, most people don't print in color. color ink jet costs about 0.10c per page. laser is about 0.04c per page. but wait he says, I print photos sometimes.... yep, take the files to a photo shop, better quality, longer lasting, and @ 0.50c a print that's 200 photos for the cost of brothers ink.

2012-06-18 23:26:00 | Apparently inkjet ink is one of the most expensive (per ml) liquids you can buy, for the name brands at least. When buying a printer you should always look into the cost of replacement ink as it's always the most expensive bit. I've gone to a multifunction black and white laser now because I find I don't really need colour prints for anything. The cheap printers in the <$200 range are almost always cheaper to replace than to get new ink for. It's ridiculous. I'm of the opinion no one should ever buy the full price name brand ink. The only way we can influence the price is to refuse to pay it. Cheap generic ink is usually not as good, but it generally does the job and is a whole lot cheaper.

2012-06-19 00:56:00 | Some aftermarket inkcarts are less than .50c each to import . Then onsold for $10+ Some Printer manufactures go as far as to have sightly different inkcarts in different global regions,I guess so they can charge more in some regions .
