1259991 2012-02-19 20:24:00 The world places too much significance on celebrity in my opinion, I personally don't believe being a popular artist or actor means you have made any significant contribution to the world, and even if you have the reward is pretty huge in financial terms so there's no need for any further recognigtion.

Having said that it hurts no one to fly some flags at half mast, it's a fairly effortless thing after all. Although maybe they should just leave them there, people die every day after all and you won't convince me Whitney has more worth than anyone else.

When someone I've never met dies somewhere in the world, famous or otherwise, it has no effect on my life and I form no strong opinions about it. I can't really relate to people who seem to get genuinely upset when a celebrity they like dies.

1259995 2012-02-19 20:57:00 She was a good singer, but I never liked her screaming voice.
She had a sad life, but that was her choice.

Yes celebrity has got way out of hand.

I agree it is totally sick the way some carry on when a well know personality dies now. Diana's death was a prime example.
