1259699 2012-02-18 01:15:00 I have a Galaxy S2 that I want to take to the US to use on available wifi (also a handy camera), so no roaming incurring data charges.

Is is just a case of not turning on Data Roaming, or should I also turn off 'Use packet data'? I also randomly wondered whether the phone would work as a wifi device if I just removed the sim?

Any input appreciated especially from experience in this sort of thing.

thanks

1259700 2012-02-18 02:19:00 If your not going to want to use it for SMS then just pull the SIM card out . WiFi will work fine.. or you may want to buy a local (AT&T) SIM depending on how long you are going for.. paulw (1826)

The sim removal is certainly an easy option!

1259702 2012-02-18 04:01:00 Try removing the SIM here, now. I think you'll find that none of the applications will be accessible without a SIM in the phone... johcar (6283)

Took the Sim out earlier and no problem connecting to home wifi and using the browser but will try gmail and maps as they are the only other 2 I need really
