24866	2001-11-18 22:20:00	Hi all I am assisting a friend who has a 486 with 8MB ram with an external 28.8k modem and would like to be able to send emails and look at the net. (They have plenty of time). What verison of internet explorer should we install. Upgrading is not an option at all as this machine is mainly used as a word processer and is quite adequate for the user. Many thanks Sue	Guest (0)
24867	2001-11-18 23:13:00	Hi Sue, probably the best version of IE for Win3.11 is IE3.02a. You can download it from: classic.tucows.com It has a built winsock and dialler and is quite easy to set up. It doesnt have an e-mail client though. The Tucows web site has various e-mail programs for Win3.1, but the one I used and still think is the easiest, neatest and smallest is Foxmail 1.6. Its free, very easy to set up and you can download it from: download.cnet.com The 32 bit version, Foxmail 2.1,is also a very neat e-mail client for Win9x, but support for it in English (it's Chinese) has gone. 24868	2001-11-19 02:08:00	The number of sites you can visit with a 3.0 browser is now very limited, and those that let you in are usually mangled. You will also probably find that any browsing will involve lots of disk 'thrashing' because of the limited ram. I'm currently setting up a dx2-50 for a friend and it runs win95a adequatly. For web browsing i've setup Opera 4 (I don't think there is a win3.1 version), and Eudora 3.0 for e-mail.	Guest (0)

24870	2001-11-19 22:27:00	Does Opera for Win 3.1 have built-in TCP/IP stack and winsock? If not then then it would be a pain to have to set up something like Trumpet Winsock to have the limited browsing capabilities of a 16 bit browser in Win3.1	Guest (0)
