| 25243 | 2001-11-23 04:40:00 | It's a one-off. It doesn't matter if it takes a while. You'll get a 'LapLink' cable for the parallel ports much cheaper than a USB. A 'Null-modem' cable for the serial ports will be cheaper still. Get Zip or WinZip. Use it to compress each directory you want to copy over. DO NOT make one huge zip file of everything. Move all the zip files to one directory, if you made them in place. Set up DCC on both machines, and copy the files. Walk away and do something else while it happens. Make sure that all files have been copied OK, and unpack them. Turn off the old computer. Done. |

| 25244 | 2001-11-23 08:10:00 | Yes you can exploit USB's full power. The is no equivalent to a laplink or null modem cable for USB. The cable at Farmers probably just does the next best thing which would only allow one-way data flow like serial, hence the slower speed. To get the full speed out of USB, buy, borrow, or rent (some places do) a USB hub, hook it up (no opening of the case required) and away you go. G P |
