25133 2001-11-21 06:29:00 The MB of PC got 4 SIMM slots broken down intoBanks 0 and 2 & 2 DIMM slots split into Banks 0 and 1.

The manufacturer (PC Chips) does not recommend mixed mode DRAM usage.

But at the end it is said that
Bank 0 (SIMM 1 & 2) and DIMM 1) mode cannot be used at the same time.

Does this mean that I can use the 78 pins and 168 pins as stated above or I can't? What would be the consequences if I use Bank 0 of SIMM and Bank 2 of DIMM?

Please reply.

25134 2001-11-21 10:44:00 Hi

Very few motherboards allow the use of both Simms and Dimms, as they use completely different access methods. I'd be pretty confident in saying that conducting an experiment to find out will result in one of two things. 1.)With both types of ram your machine doesn't post, when you remove one type of ram it does. 2.)When you use both types of ram all runs happily. Actually there is a third possiblity that is likely... 3.)you will be able to mix ram types but so long as you don't use Bank 0 of the simms. Basically what I am trying to say is, put them all in and see what happens, likely nothing will go wrong. Alternatively, ditch the simms, and get a big fat dimm, ram is ridiculously cheap at the moment.
