25547 2001-11-25 18:38:00 With an older PC putting in a new m/b, will the PSU be fine? Just a case of plugging in the connectors etc? Any problems? What if it was an old 486 or just a 2-3 year old P266 and wanting to upgrade to new DDR m/b?

Any tips/problems encountered?

Cheers

25548 2001-11-25 20:05:00 You're likely to need a new powersupply, and possibly a new case, as there was the switch from the old AT style PSUs and cases to the ATX style. The 266 may already have ATX, but I doubt it. Guest (0)
25549 2001-11-25 20:06:00 If the old computer had an ATX case & power supply no problem (as long as the power supply is powerful enouth). If the old computer (486) had an AT case and power supply both will need replacing. Guest (0)
25550 2001-11-25 20:53:00 I upgraded from a P2.350 to a p4.15 and needed a new power supply and ram was also changed from 256simms I think it was to 1024 of the new stuff, whether the old ram if I had stayed at 256 would have worked in the new board I am not sure so that is another consideration. The power supply might have been ok but I changed the video card from on board to a G2 so it just did not have enough zap to safely power everything. Guest (0)
