25801 2001-11-27 11:34:00 Just thought I'd let you all know...

My wife (Sarah) and I (well, mainly her) are having a baby. Due early June :)

Now you know. Perhaps we could have some suggestions for names or anything else you want to suggest.

I know this isn't PC, but neither really was Rob's Geek thread, and yeah, so that might have been somewhat PC related, so is this, cause I'm a geek.

25804 2001-11-27 22:35:00 Congratulations, just let Sarah pick the name... or you could use the hunt for a name, as the excuse why you are spending so much time on the computer, LOL.... anyway, you are in for many pleasurable years ahead. RINGO Guest (0)

25806 2001-11-28 09:37:00 ...congratulations Mike,

no more lonely all-nighters looking for someone to 'chat' or 'game' with.

Now you'll have someone to keep you company *every* few hours throughout the night.

Best wishes to you all!!!

25808 2001-11-28 19:33:00 Yes, congratulations. Hope it goes well.

Based on my own experience, a few words of advice:

1. Attend all ante-natal classes. Ask questions, don't let them debate about breastfeeding or make you change a nappy on a doll. Make them focus on the whole delivery thing. Find out what to do if you are stuck with your wife, on your own, and the baby is coming. If they say it never happens, tell them you know people it has happened to and you want to be prepared.

2. Arm your child with at least two middle names. This means if their first name sucks they have some choices. Things change. You don't know when a popstar or mass murderer will come along with the same name (I have a cousin called Michael Jackson, for example).

3. Remember, you will be the useless waste of space in the parenting department until the baby is at least six months old. Probably older.

4. Don't ever tell your wife how much birthday presents and christmas presents cost. Not worth it. Ever. Just learn to creatively hide this information.

5. Hide the matches, turpentine, and the chainsaw.

That's about it for now.

Robo.
PS In case you're wondering, I delivered my two myself, on my own, solo. It was no fun the first time, it was worse the second time because I knew nobody would arrive in time, the first time around I still had hope....

25809 2001-11-28 20:51:00 Thanks for the advice Rob...

I always wondered why I scored 2 middle names... I always thought it was because my dad never had a middle name and so he wanted me to have 2 to make up for it... now I know the truth.

I very much doubt anyone is going to have the same name... anyone SEEN my last name? :) I've scoured the Whitepages online for people with the same name... the only people I've found are my uncle and aunt, and my grandparents (oh, and my parents...)

I can't hide the matches... we can't find them :)

I don't have a chainsaw... it isn't useful in the PC... everything not related to the PC is worthless...

And well done, Rob, for delivering your two... I guess it kind of makes it worse for me cause we don't have a car (all spare money we seem to get either buys clothes for the Mrs. or buys new bits for the PC)

I'm still waiting thought for someone to come up with a USEFUL name or names for a boy if we have one... we're still stuck on this one!

25810 2001-11-29 02:42:00 ...here you go, Mike,

another reason/excuse (as if you ever needed one!) to spend more time on-line.

An interesting data base of male and female names with explanations as to their meaning and derivation.

Hours of fun!
