25714 2001-11-26 23:30:00 Win 98 SE doesn't close down and go to the DOS prompt. I can't run some of my DOS programs that I used to run in Win 98. It would make it easier for my wife to be able to 'click and go' instead of having to learn some DOS commands. Help! Guest (0)
25715 2001-11-26 23:59:00 Hi Alan
This is a known problem with 98SE (and I think 98 too). There are patches around that will fix this. However, I first suggest that you check you have the latest video drivers for your video card (try www.drivershq.com). This will often fix the problem. Otherwise, go to the M$ site and find the patch under downloads.

25716 2001-11-27 00:00:00 To configure an MS-DOS-based program to run in MS-DOS mode, you should have a shortcut icon for the program. If there is no shortcut icon for the program, use the right mouse button to click the program's icon, and then click Create Shortcut on the menu that appears.

Use the right mouse button to click the shortcut icon, and then click Properties on the menu that appears. On the Program tab, click Advanced.
Click the Prevent MS-DOS-based programs from detecting Windows check box to select it. Click OK.

Try to run the program by double-clicking its shortcut icon. If the program runs, stop here. If the program still does not run, repeat the above steps but click the MS-DOS Mode check box to select it. Click OK.

Try to run the program by double-clicking its shortcut icon.

25717 2001-12-03 05:36:00 Alan - did you solve your problem?
I have the official MS Close down patch - I can email to you if you are still in trouble - it sits in your temp files after activation - seems to work ok for me - let me know if you want it
CU, Simon
