| 26234 | 2001-12-02 00:18:00 | I recently bought my 1st PC & tried to burn a full disc backup to CDRW. System locked up and upon reset got 'Sec Master Drive ATAPI incompatible - press F1' Proceeded but CDRW would not work & was missing from My Computer. Since then system starts ok and the drive has reappeared, but the system crashes regularly, usually when using the CDRW & I always get the same 'ATAPI' message. Any help would be appreciated as being a PC novice I seem to be spending all my spare time trying to find clues as to what has happened & how to fix it. | Guest (0) | ||

If so, take it back to the shop you bought it from, and tell them to make it work. If you didn't buy it new, then come back here and we'll all give it a go. Mike |

| 26236 | 2001-12-08 10:54:00 | Hi Mike, Although the System isnt new (its a Athlon 500),I did purchase the unit privately from a person that offered a 3 month warranty on the PC. Unfortunately the person has left for overseas prematurely so I have been unable to contact him for assistance. I have a very basic knowledge of PC hardware, but the software side is all new to me. I have tried to find clues through PC world back issues & numerous library books, but to no avail so far. I have already checked the jumper settings on the CDRW as suggested by Graham & these seem ok (the CDRW is set as Master - there is another CD player on the same cable set as slave). I havent tried the MS Critical updates yet though. Thanks for your reply, I hope you can help. CF |
