26298 2001-12-02 11:49:00 hi i have just bought a Ricoh mp5120 DVD+RW drive which came bundled with Nero 5.5 burning software which can do dvd to dvd copy (on the fly or image) so i tried to copy one of my own DVDs. while reading the image i noticed the read buffer stayed at 0% all through the read. then when i tried to burn the image onto dvd+rw. the record buffer was violent fluctuating bw 10 and 90%. while the read buffer was also fluctuating from 10 and 90%. even all this was happening Nero didnt abort the burn. but then it got to 100% burn..it said burn failed!! eg it didnt abort while burning from 0 to 99% but then it got to 100% it said burn failed..

Okay can some one find a solution?

Thank You

26299 2001-12-02 12:30:00 Okay, I don't think you'll find too many (if any) people here with a DVD writer.

But may I suggest something: You may have been trying to copy a DVD with the DVD copyright protection system in place. To copy a DVD you'll probably need to find somethign that'll get past the copy protection, or just copy DVDs without copy protection (which is I think about 40% of the market, and shrinking).

26300 2001-12-02 14:09:00 sorry can't really help with your problem but i was wondering how you fit a dvd onto one disk. my info might be out of date here so excuse if i'm barking up the wrong tree :-). dvd-r format gives you 4.7g per disk unless it double sided. some of the dvd's i have been ripping have been 8g in size.

you should be able to rip the dvd, remove the things you don't need such as subtitles, lanuages etc to cut down the file size and then burn it to disk. might need a dvd disk authoring prog.

26301 2001-12-02 18:46:00 Have a careful look through the help files in nero, while dvd is different from vcd, I fell into the trap of assuming I could just make a image and copy from that, in the case of vcd's, there is only one set of files that needs to be copied over from the vcd disk, all the other files are already held by nero by default. 26302 2001-12-03 04:51:00 I'm afraid i've got bad news, I was recently looking at this cd-rw+dvd, and guess why i didn't by it, because it wasn't worth it, it CANNOT (in caps. only 'cos to make it obvious) copy dvd or write, it can only write cd's and vcd's. and too like the guy said before dvd's are about 4.7 gb or so.

Hoped that help

p.s tip: look and research/study carefully before you hand the money over

26303 2001-12-04 01:59:00 hmmm thanks for the feedback guys but i still think it should work.. if i have a dvd writer and nero says it can do dvd to dvd copying it should work..unless it has copy protection..yep..most dvds are around 4.7 gig n size, the dvd+rw discs are 4.7 gig n size and i tried copying toy story which is only 4.1 gig so in theory it should work..im not interested in ripping down to a size so it can fit onto a cd-r..i want to make exact dvd to dvd copys..nero says it can do that..maybe i jus need some extra software to break the copy protection or is there other software that can create an exact whole image of a dvd and then burn it onto a dvd+rw disc?..u guys know of any good dvd authoring software?..i didnt just buy the dvd+rw writer to copy dvds, im doin video capture of stuff like vhs tapes and camcorder stuff..and so far this has worked sweet..i kood line in the dvds and capture em too..but dont want the hassle of hooking up my dvd player to the pc..there must be a way to make dvd to dvd copys with available online software but ill keep trying with nero..maybe i just have to adjust some settings etc, but thanks for the feedback so far..keep postin please, im a keen learner in all of this stuff.

thanks

26305 2002-03-13 01:38:00 I have no idea how ancient your post is, but.......

I have been trying off and on for a while to do the same thing. As for the encryption, you need a De-CSS decryption tool get rid of the copy protection. I have yet to find a copy util with that built in. I have tried decrypting to the HDD and then burning it back to DVD-R, but it won't play ;-(.

I have found some good help on dvd-copy.com, cdfreaks.com and cdmediaworld.com, but it seems most people are just doing the VCD on CD-R thing. Oh, well. I guess we wait til someone writes a copy app with the de-css built in.

Please mail me if you have any luck or find anything out.

keep-burnin!
