26549 2001-12-04 23:19:00 A few months ago ,I added a 9100 series cd writer to my hp 8802. Unfortunately, the store that sold it to me did not supply a recovery program disc.
I am running windowsME,can anyone tell me how to manually restart the writer after formatting the hard drive?

thanhs , mick

26550 2001-12-05 00:57:00 This may be a silly question, but how did you get it working in the first place? Guest (0)
26551 2001-12-05 02:33:00 The answer is obvious, Mick.... go back to shop you brought it from and demand your missing disc (unless you brought it second hand from the likes of Cash Converters - where they may be good enough to contact the person who sold it to them, and ask them to bring it in)

26552 2001-12-05 03:25:00 Gidday

I also have a HP 9100 series CD Writer (9140), brought secondhand. It didn't come with any software (yes it is legit), however my system recognised it and it runs fine, most of the time. I downloaded the latest HP Record Now software from their site, and this works a treat to produce data discs or music cds.

The only problem I have is this.... The cd writer fails to respond when a disc is inserted to read or write, after the PC has been on for more than about an hour. It runs ok if I re-boot.

Searching HP I found that it is a bug with this model, but after downloading the patch it says the correct software was not used in installing the cd rw. Similar to your issue, I also need the original install software.

26553 2001-12-05 13:14:00 Mate, that was first plan of attack!Sadly, the shop that I bought the writer from, brand new, supposedly a reputable national chainstore has failed to address the problem.
If I have learnt anything from this ,it is that computers are best bought from specialist outlets - much as Noel Leemings has given our family excellent service on audio/video and whiteware, their after sales service on computer equipment [at least,New Plymouth branch] is frankly hopeless.

26554 2001-12-05 13:22:00 Thanks for that, jester. Will try that software....can't get the bundled software[music match jukebox]to recognise the hardware. Guest (0)
26555 2001-12-05 20:33:00 Hello Mick,

Your Writer should automatically be detected after the reformatting of your HD and loading of Windows, the only software you need to load is the burning software, this should have been provided on an application CD that shipped with the Writer, you must have been given that or you would not have been able to burn any CD's from day one, if you did'nt install it yourself whoever did must have the CD.
To be absolutely sure that your writer is detected go to device manager and look under CDRom if it shows up there, everything should work fine once the writing software is installed.

26556 2001-12-05 23:00:00 this kinda reminds me of the shop that got done for loading software on to its customers pc's from one disk with out a licence to do so. the stunts they try to pull ;-) Guest (0)
