I changed the order of the rams and it still wont boot!!
The power turns on, but monitor wont turn on..

I dont think i fried the motherboard (this motherboard has graphics, sound, modem all onboard)....
I might have fried the RAM, or someone said the ram is not registering....

What is ram registration and how do you do it? please let me know!!

26385 2001-12-03 08:44:00 Sounds like a common problem when you start mucking around with ram. If its 128pin you may not have pressed it down hard enough. Some motherboards have ram slots that are quite tight. If you get no beeps and no video its pobably bu****ed ram. Take it out and see if it beeps when you boot. Put 1 bit in at a time. Make sure you have followed the normal precautions re static -often expounded in this forum!
Try some ram from a machine that is working. Just remember to change one thing at a time.

26386 2001-12-03 08:53:00 Question:Why did you change your ram around?

Some possible answers to your problem:

If you were mucking around inside your case were you wearing an antistatic wrist strap? If you weren't you may well have fried a part or two!
Ram is very susceptible to damage through static electricity as are many other components inside your case.
Are you certain the ram is in the right way round, it is easy to put ram in back to front.

When you were inside your case you may have loosened a connection, check all plugs etc. especially those for the monitor and graphics card.

Are the cables for your monitor plugged in properly? I know it seems like a stupid question but you would not believe how common this is.

Is your computer making all the right noises on startup?i.e hard drive whirring around, fans going, light on the front blinking on and off
indicating hard drive activity.

If all your cables seem to be in place properly I would take 1 stick of ram out and reboot, if you don't have any luck take that stick out and put the other one in and try again.

You can tell if your ram is registering as just after turning your computer on you will see a bunch of numbers counting up on your screen and it will tell you how much ram has been found keep your eyes peeled just after boot up.

Try these suggestions and post back if you have no luck.

Earth your self by rubing your hands on the metal casing of the power supply 1st or even better get a wriststrap about $15.00

26387 2001-12-03 08:54:00 A useful tip is to try booting with no RAM in it, if you STILL get no error beeps, then there is something wrong with either your mobo or CPU. Guest (0)
