26696 2001-12-06 08:35:00 I was just wondering if anybody else has had problems with the PC Company. I purchased a computer from them but the problem was they had trouble getting to me. When I brought the computer PC Company informed me that it would take 10 working days, and that was fine. After many unanswered phone calls and straight out lies my computer finally arrived nearly 4 weeks after my original purchase. I certainly will not buy off The PC Company again and suggest others to think twice before they buy also Guest (0)
26697 2001-12-06 08:40:00 I know how you feel... I just build my own now, I managed to build a far superior system for under $1000 compared to their $3000 price tag. You can see the sort of markup they put on it. 1/3 the price cannot qualify as 'assembly and shipping'. Guest (0)

I could give you some stories about just about every vendor. Once I was trying to get a replacement CDRom drive for a Gateway laptop, and I asked the guy if I was on candid camera. I just couldn't believe it was real. I even reminded him that the call could be being monitored for quality control purposes.

The key thing is this: did you get what you paid for? Sounds like you did, even if it was late. Don't know about the lies, but sometimes you get someone who doesn't care and wants to get rid of you.

I've had some shocking experiences with one vendor and ridiculous delays. Don't buy their product any more (won't name them here). I went to the dreaded IBM instead, and have to say I have been pretty happy since.

The next test for you is how they do when you call for support. You don't have to buy your next PC from them, but you want the one you've got to work.

As for the other reply, I have never been able to bring myself to build a PC, I figure I am better off just getting a box for a reasonable price from someone I can hassle when things go wrong.

I know, that doesn't last long. The 'standard box' now has extra memory, another disk, and another CDRom drive. It's only a theory.

26701 2001-12-06 10:01:00 I bought a PC Company PC in 98 and they took an extra couple of days to deliver. I did have some hardware problems but they sorted them out very quickly (helps to be able to be within easy drive of the service place)they even replaced some bits while I waited. However, I have had nothing to do with them for 2 years. Reason - no problems. Would buy from them again.
Would like to have the knowledge of Gian, to be able to build my own, though.

26702 2001-12-06 10:45:00 nothing new, i know a few people who have had the same thing. mostly caused by 'we are out of stock of...' which isn't to bad but it would be nice if they actual tell the customer whats going on.

general hp systems are crappy. who in there right mind would sell a pc with win98se and 30meg ram? its also strange that nz dosn't get the good hp systems that are sold in the us.

build a $2000 pc thats better than a mainstream $3000?? i seriously doubt that. the curse of buliding a pc yourself is the cost. even buying parts at wholesale its difficuilt to beat the big companies on price. however performance and reliabilty is a different story ;-)

26703 2001-12-06 11:08:00 If you want to try a local comapany with a good reputation try TL systems in Onehunga. I've bought 2 PC from them over the years and am very happy with the relaibilty of their machines

26704 2001-12-06 11:12:00 Love your 'name'
I've never dealt with PC company but have bought two systems from TLS - TL systems.
Excellent service.
Only hardware prob was a monitor which was DOA but a replacement arrived by o/night courier the following morning with all return courier documents enclosed. Good phone backup too.
Better luck next time.
