26758 2001-12-06 12:30:00 My friend has a 486 that is not working properly... well not at all actually. When you boot it up the screen stays blank and the computer beeps about 4 or 5 times then stops. It is a different noise than when the RAM is not seated correctly. Can anyone help? Guest (0)

26760 2001-12-07 02:33:00 Make sure all the cables are connected properly, like the IDE cables and all the cards are correctly in there slots.
I had a similar problem the other day and found that the floppy drive was not connected.

26762 2001-12-07 07:06:00 Tell us the exact number of beeps. And look inside the box and let us know the name of the BIOS maker. There will be one (probably) 28 pin package, 0.6' pin spacing (about thumb size), and it will be labelled something like '386/486 BIOS' or similar -- and the manufacturer's name -- there are various books which list the error beeps.
