| 1284729 | 2012-06-30 01:27:00 | Hi folks. Have 3 external drives attached to main PC and 2xinternals. Also have another desktop kids have filled and 2 laptops in house. Nothing commercial but a range of (legally downloaded and stored) pictures, music, movies, HD camcorder rips, documents etc etc . I'm looking for a solution that would enable to to backup the main desktops and laptops from a system operating level - emails, word and excel documents etc etc, possiblty create an image of that PC and also a backup storage device for all the media content - totalling around 3.5 TB currenty..About 8 years+ of storage Was looking at the Netgear RND 2000 but see that's a 2bay with a max storage of 6gb. If I ran one as storage and other bay as mirror then in reality only a max of 3gb. So now considering the RND 4000 model which has 4 bays. Was thinking of running 3x2tb drives in proper raid configuration to give me complete redundancy should a drive fail etc. Also gives me 1 spare drive slot for additional upgrading. Any opinions please on if this is the correct way to proceed for an averagely skilled PC user i.e plug and play. These seem to be the best around just now regarding connectability etc. Also, any ideas on the latest models ( which I think are V2) as there is some big price discrepanices around in NZ and I'm thining this is due to some companies still offloading older v1 models. | 1284730 | 2012-06-30 02:59:00 | Wow, that is an impressive amount of data. The depressing thing about this sort of backup, though, is that you still stand to lose the lot in a fire or burglary. Hard to cater for that with 3.5TB of data!! | linw (53) | ||

You could go for one of the cheaper ones with 4 bays. You could get 4x 2TB drives and under Raid 5, this will give you 6TB space. www.pbtech.co.nz Full Specs - web.qnap.com |
