| 1284656 | 2012-06-29 08:57:00 | So are you asking how to set up the N300 for the first time (ie it's new)? So you have Laptop <--> N300 <--> Modem <--> Internet? If so, firstly you need to connect to the N300. To do that, set your laptop IP settings to Auto & plug into the N300's LAN ports with cable, or follow the Belkin instructions. The N300 should be set up as a DHCP server on some IP address (typically 192.168.1.1, 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 - use IPCONFIG at command prompt & look for default gateway address) Now go to the WAN setup for the N300 & enter the IP & DNS settings (using "Static" option or similar) & enter the IP/DNS settings you use for the direct connection to the cable modem. Then you should be able to plug the WAN connector to the modem & you will have a wired connection via the router. Next step is to set up the wifi on the N300 & get rid of the cord. That should be pretty straightforward now that you've established a wired connection - you will always have a fallback position if something goes wrong with the wireless. |
