1284075 2012-06-26 23:45:00 Looking at this pc that won't boot - removed the ram to try and get some POST beeps, but no go. Doesn't even get to POST stage. I take a look at the board and there's this odd mark (see attached pic). It kind of looks like goo in the pic, but looks more like a scrape in normal light. Could this be the culprit? I've reseated the CPU and RAM, unplugged the drives, etc.
It's about 16 months old - ASUS M2N68-AM Plus.

1284076 2012-06-26 23:53:00 It just some goo.
If it was scraped, significantly, you'd see a break in the trace or see actual copper .

1284077 2012-06-26 23:57:00 I'll clean it off. They must just have got a dud.
Another oddity is that it has 1GB of RAM, even 2 years ago that was beyond useless for Win7.

1284078 2012-06-27 00:00:00 Give it a clean with some Isopropyl alcohol. mikebartnz (21)
1284079 2012-06-27 00:40:00 Woah, after cleaning with Isopropyl it's booting again. Renegade (16270)
1284080 2012-06-27 01:54:00 I wonder where it came from in the first case. mikebartnz (21)
1284081 2012-06-27 02:08:00 Yeah, I'm having my doubts about this PC. Confirmed it was purchased around Nov 2010 "new" and had very little use (really clean inside). I ran HD Sentinel, and that reports the drive has had 540+ days power on time. If used 24/7 since then it would be around 600-odd days, but they don't leave it on 24/7 and don't even use it some days. Maybe used for an hour or 2 every couple of days. So with the whopping 1GB of RAM, along with a most likely pre-used HD, I suspect they got had. Renegade (16270)
1284082 2012-06-27 02:23:00 I was actually meaning the blob of crap you wiped off. mikebartnz (21)
1284083 2012-06-27 05:51:00 Looks like mouse urine, did it have a card slot open or a side off the case for a while?
Had to fix one a few years ago with that problem, ate the traces and a couple of smd chips away.

1284084 2012-06-27 21:24:00 No slots open, doubt they would open the case but you never know. No poo around, maybe an earwig or roach got in and took a leak or something. It was reasonably thick and took several rubs to remove. No goo above the area either. Odd, but it's now booting so they're happy  Renegade (16270)
