2012-02-28 23:13:00 | The court heard how Marino had come from a troubled, violent background and dysfunctional family and was drunk at the time of the attack and could recall little of it. www.nzherald.co.nz Jesus! Who would have guessed?:lol::lol:

2012-02-28 23:19:00 | From stuff.co.nz Raurangi Marino, 16, broke into a unlocked caravan parked at Club Habitat and assaulted a five-year-old girl while her parents were less than 20 metres away in an amenities block. At the Rotorua District Court today, Marino was jailed for 10 years for rape, seven for grievous bodily harm and two years for burglary. The terms were to be served concurrently. SCREAMS HEARD The girl's mother heard her screams and rushed to the caravan where she saw the youth on top of her child, police said at the time.

He'd be better to tell them he robbed a liquor store if he wants to see the week out. EDIT: I believe I was questioned in an original thread about speculation of this event being gang-motivated, or that he would be a Maori boy. I stand justified on both counts |

2012-02-28 23:51:00 | According to pctek: Marino was jailed for 10 years for rape, seven for grievous bodily harm and two years for burglary. The terms were to be served concurrently. 10 years. Should be double at least!

2012-02-28 23:55:00 | According to pctek: 10 years. Should be double at least! Whoops sorry, missed that didnt think he had been sentenced. 10 years for the most brutal assault on a kid then minus the discount of 5 years. seems pretty light to me.

2012-02-29 00:02:00 | According to pctek: 10 years. Should be double at least! I heard on the radio this morning that NZ judges actually have the ability to sentence offenders with CONSECUTIVE terms rather than concurrent ones (IMO, a much more sensible method and fairer for the victim(s)). I guess the reason they don't use that option is the increased cost of keeping them inside that much longer. but the cost of letting them out earlier would be a new set of victims (given the high recidivist element) - this would outweigh the cost of leaving them inside, I would have thought...
