| 1261993 | 2012-02-28 06:28:00 | www.3news.co.nz Don't know if this was posted on here, but In april, a new channel will launch on FreeviewHD (just in time for me!) It is called ChoiceTV owned by TopShelfProductions who make the great tv3 program Target. Hopefully it will be good, as Freeview needs more channels, but i'm still gonna keep my long AV cord running to my tv from the skybox in the lounge so i can get the Crime Investigation Channel. Anyway, here's what wikipedia says: ChoiceTV is a television station (en.wikipedia.org) operating in New Zealand (en.wikipedia.org) and owned by Top Shelf Productions (en.wikipedia.org). The channel will launch in April 2012. The channel will broadcast 24 hours and feature programmes covering gardening, food, travel, adventure, health and fitness, comedy and drama. And from 3News.co.nz: www.3news.co.nz A new free-to-air TV channel is to be launched in April, boasting a mixture of high quality local and international content. Choice TV will run on the Freeview digital platform and aims to broadcast 24-hours a day, covering themes such as gardening, food, travel, adventure, health and fitness, comedy and drama. Top Shelf Productions the production company behind shows such as Target, Whats Really in Our ?, Media 7 and The Ad Show, is the major shareholder behind the new channel. They say Choice TV will be a leading channel in the digital switchover. New Zealand is rapidly heading toward the first digital switchover in September and, when that happens, Choice TV will be there to provide viewers with free access to a greater choice of popular programmes, says Choice TV and Top Shelf director Vincent Burke. The channel will not feature news content at this stage, but will show locally made documentaries. It also hoped to gain screening rights for the Film Commissions extensive back catalogue of feature and short films. The exact channel number is not yet known, but will be either Freeview 12 or 13. What do you guys think? I think that if it shows good programmes it very well could be a really decent channel for NZ television. |

On the face of it yes, but we really need to see what happens after it finds its feet. What seems to be an attractive coverage initially may be difficult to sustain 24/7 without reverting to the usual re-run malaise that afflicts every other channel. Of course, you'll have your new TV to watch, which'll make it more enjoyable anyway ..... :D What did you settle on and have you got it yet? |

I'm getting my new tele next week, and have settled on a Sony, as i can trust the brand, as my current huge 50kg big behind 29inch Sony Wega CRT is still going perfect since my parents got it on 04, and it's been through all sorts of crap. If i can't get the sony, i'll settle for a samsung, or a panasonic, but i have got my eye on this one: www.dicksmith.co.nz It's only 720p, but for a tv that's 32 inch, it will be fine, and i don't have any blueray media or players etc.. So i don't really have a need for full 1080i or 1080p. It seems to have a good set of features too. |
