I see Nichol Williamson (cynical type I recall) a fine british actor sucuumbs (articles.latimes.com), but like many male UK kind of underground/fine classical actors (shakespearean/Hamlet types?) say from the 60's - 70's - such as stamp, (en.wikipedia.org) scofield, (en.wikipedia.org) mcdowall (en.wikipedia.org), Gough (en.wikipedia.org) (Hammer Horrors) that I grew up with their movies as a kid, they seem to relegate into near oblivion - even in death. But their female UK counterparts (often as dames) seem to be eminent forever almost - Dench, Christie, Redgrave(s), yet they hardly "work" that much on screen. British culture/class system maybe? |
