1261558 2012-02-26 02:24:00 Clowns Gather for International Conference

BILLINGS, MONTANA, USA - Carl Watts traveled to Billings from Oklahoma City to hang out with 53 other clowns from across the continent at the end of February .

"These guys are fantastic . You look around you can see, I mean, you want to see what a clown's supposed to look like, these guys can do it . " Watts became "Day Late the Clown" about 15 years ago in order to make a difference in young people's lives .

"And I (sic) seen the clowns, and they have so much close association with the children, you know, so that's why I'm a clown; because of the kids," Watts said .

The clowns are in town for the International Shrine Clown Association conference, hosted by the Al Bedoo Shriners . "They're all here to have a good time . They want to have a good time," said Mark "Buzzy" Burgad, the vice president of the International Shrine Clown Association .

"They work at having a good time . And they enjoy each other's company . " They're attending workshops to learn tricks of the trade, like how to interact with audiences and put together costumes .

Several vendors are also helping them perfect their characters .

Clowns can shop for accessories for their wardrobes, and find things like Mary Jane shoes (?), which cost $180 . They're also competing in clowning events, like face painting and balloon character making . But it's not all about the competitions .

"It's a camaraderie . It's a brotherhood . It's you know, clowning is a very unique deal," said Watts . "Besides all that my wife says I've been acting like one all my life so might as well be one anyway so . "

Some proceeds of the event go to the Shriner's Hospital for Children in Spokane, Washington .

BTW: I hate clowns .

1261559 2012-02-26 02:36:00 Most of ours are a bit too busy to travel just now as Parliament is going through a busy spell, which will very shortly translate to a burst of fresh misery for us.
When the weather turns a bit colder here we can expect the clowns to flock off on overseas "study tours" for a while to sample a bit of foreign trough licking.

1261560 2012-02-26 02:50:00 Our Prime Minister will be going, he will get the Air Force plane to fly him over (should only cost about $150,000 to the taxpayer), no disguise needed!! Iantech (16386)
1261561 2012-02-26 03:17:00 Floppy shoes? Big red noses? Our politicians travel incognito - they have to or someone might put a laser on their foreheads. SurferJoe46 (51)
