1261247 2012-02-25 02:28:00 How many people here do not know the road rules as in keep left unless passing, theres too many drivers who continually stay in the far right lane of the motorway just because they are doing under or just on the speed limit and they do not care if they are holding up traffic, i thought the number one rule was as mentioned previously KEEP LEFT UNLESS PASSING

While on the subject of road rules how many drivers on this forum do not know the right hand rule, WHEN TURNING RIGHT GIVE WAY TO VEHICLES ON YOUR RIGHT unless they are on a giveway or stop sign, this rule is about to change but i see it everyday where vehicles turn in front of you and sneer or abuse you because you pull out on them :angry:angry:angry

1261248 2012-02-25 03:18:00 There is is only one real rule.
"Always expect everyone else to have no knowledge of the road code and drive accordingly."
That way you will not get involved in anyone else's mistakes and if they drive the same way they will avoid yours.

Despite the massive signs saying exactly that at the start of every passing lane?

1261251 2012-02-25 03:32:00 They seem to think they have every right to be there even when there is cars piling up behind them PeterQ (16315)
1261252 2012-02-25 03:40:00 because they are doing under or just on the speed limit and they do not care if they are holding up traffic Just how far under are you referring to ?

Remember that the speed limit is Maximum 100 km/h So if they are doing 100k, then legally anything passing them, or being held up is in fact breaking the law.

1261253 2012-02-25 03:46:00 You are missing the point of the road rule, KEEP LEFT whether anyone is passing at over the speed limit is irrelevant and as you know a lot of drivers do, it is enforced in Australia and England but doesnt appear to be over here PeterQ (16315)
1261254 2012-02-25 04:26:00 They seem to think they have every right to be there even when there is cars piling up behind them
Well they have every right if they are on the posted speed limit. The people behind will just have to obey the law especially if another car in the left lane is pacing them to block the lane changers.
Why should a person keep left if they are going to get overtaken by drivers exceeding the speed limit?

1261255 2012-02-25 04:28:00 But please do remember there are often two or three lanes where you MUST pick the right lane early or you won't be able to turn off right. Don't you just grrrr at those drivers who come along on the left and pretend that they have suddenly realised that they need to be in the right hand lane to reach their destination and they nudge across until someone brakes to create a gap for them to push in. So there are instances where you can't keep in the left lane unless you're never going to get to your destination. There should be a rule that says "if you see a big queue in the right-hand lane you are not permitted to race alongside it until the last possible instant and then beg to be allowed into the queue." coldot (6847)

true, but its not up too you to enforce the law by doing 100kph in the fast lane so people cant past
