Because the up button is awesome.

No point in duplicate functionality within 100 pixels of each other :p

Well I guess they can go and get really stuffed then. WGA is bad enough but I refuse to support a product that has this kind of 'feature'

1262469 2012-03-03 05:54:00 Kill switches -- so called because a simple command can deactivate or delete an app -- are common in mobile app stores. Both Apple and Google can flip such a switch for apps distributed by the iOS App Store and Android Market, respectively. Already on some common devices. Killing an apple would be a WTF moment lol :D wainuitech (129)

This would only apply to apps downloaded from the ms app store? And those apps from the app store are for metro only? So this doesn't effect the classic desktop situation?

Seems that way. But what if you enjoy your app you downloaded and don't want it killed even if Microsoft don't want you to have it for some reason?

It's possible someone will come up with a way to remove the kill switch. It's not as if WPA has been un-crackable yet.

For the record I do not (to my knowledge) own any device that has a remote "kill switch" and I am not about to start now.

The simple choice would be to never use the metro interface.

1262473 2012-03-03 08:51:00 If you haven't read the complete article linked, what they are suggesting is its not only Apps, but "what happens if a hacker cracks the mechanism and can write some malicious code to brick millions of computers?"

Think about malware thats already about, whats stopping the writers from actually executing a code to basically render a drive wiped on reboot . Easy enough to do it in a few seconds with a script, or even manually, only takes a few more seconds and wouldn't take much to do it when a PC is rebooted .

In other words, a "backdoor" to the Actual OS, as the apps are running in the OS, so in theory a code could be written to actual do a lot of damage over all . While they can do that now if you have the skills, if the option is there, its almost an open invitation .
