1262455 2012-03-02 08:26:00 Windows ME = Masochist's Edition. If you've used it you know why that is the best description for it!

I think Win 8 will be a failure if they try to force Metro onto people. It only makes sense for Tablets or Media Centers.

Even if that isn't an issue I think it's too soon. Most people hated Vista and a lot of people only recently switched to Windows 7, so Windows 8 is like a surplus OS nobody wants or needs right now, and has a bad interface to boot.

Or maybe they're not expecting it to do well on anything other than the Tablet market? But that would be stupid...

1262456 2012-03-02 11:21:00 Just a theory :D

Windows 8 in its time line is designed to be a failure ---- how you may ask ??

Spot the pattern & editions as they were produced (for the time it was) ;)

Win98 - Good

ME - Failure

XP - Good

Vista - Failure

Win 7 - Good (what Vista should have been)

Win 8 - Failure

Win 9 - Good ??? (Windows 8 as it should have been).

Pattern or what ?Nailed it!! Been thinking the exact same thing.

:punk The W7 Start menu and button IS BACK in Windows 8.

Just need to do the second part of that article I linked to move the pinned items across.

So now it's just Windows 7 once you have done that hack, so why would anyone upgrade at this point I can't see any reason to

It's for those who have too much money but don't know how, when, and what to do with their money!

1262460 2012-03-02 21:30:00 The Windows 8 layout and menu bars have changed a bit as well, every thing is now the ribbon style, as per Office 2007 & 2010. Obviously "under the bonnet" there are quite a few changes as well. (excluding metro)

But in its current beta form, theres no great need to change from W7 to W8.

I did read yesterday ( some place - cant remember which forum) Someone claimed that Microsoft have said they will give the option to easily disable metro if the person so wants. ( take that with a grain of salt though)

But it is possible apparently How-Disable-Metro-UI-Consumer-Preview.aspx (www.mywindowsclub.com) Scroll down to the comments, 3rd post

Remember the comment:
Microsoft’s chief Steve Ballmer at a Gartner Symposium claimed that Windows 8 would be like a major gamble for his company. Analyst John Pescatore asked him about the next “riskiest product bet” and the answer was simply “the next release of Windows”. He got that right ;)

1262462 2012-03-02 22:42:00 I've been playing with Windows 8 for a day or so on and off and not that impressed with it. Once you hit the 'traditional' desktop it most well be Windows 7 bar a few fancy dialogue boxes (for copy/move for example). It seems to be to be a tablet O/S first and a PC O/S second. And some changes seem to have been made for the sake of change -- no Start button for example is just dumb. On the desktop you want to find software and locations quickly not fart about going to another Start page! And then there's the "nonsensical path" to achieving the simple task of shutting down a PC.
