In a normal world, you'd think they'd be beta testing something that is more like the final product, rather than features that will put most people off it, & giving it a bad rep allready. Another Vista like fiasco looming ?? Will IT depts & big name brands just refuse to use it & demand downgrades to Win7 just like the Vista PC's that came pre-installed with XP or had bundled downgrade disks. Why not just have a separate release for tablets ?? |

2012-03-01 22:11:00 | Hmmm, according to a mate of mine talking to a Microsoft Rep last night. The Rep said "if you dont like the Metro look, just turn it off and you will get the regular Win7 look" ....so.... somewhere.... there must be a way to turn it off. I pulled all the plugs out of the box I installed it on and put it back under the desk, I'll drag it out over the weekend and have a further play. (once I have had a play with another item that I will post about tomorrow - stay tuned!) | Iantech (16386) | |
2012-03-01 23:07:00 | The Rep said "if you dont like the Metro look, just turn it off and you will get the regular Win7 look" Typical Microsoft answer, completely useless. Would have been nice to actually say where the option is. The reg hack doesn't work - I tried it.

2012-03-01 23:09:00 | Metro makes me think of that weird Ubuntu(?) netbook menu. I ran a distro with it on my Eee for a while until I realised the lack of a desktop folder actually on the desktop and a big fat menu all over the entire screen was just a stupid waste of space. Now it runs Lubuntu with LXDE and makes a heck of a lot more sense.

2012-03-02 00:58:00 | No, not Unity, though I don't care much for that either. The thing I am talking about is I think "Ubuntu Netbook Remix" but whatever it is, it looks like this: 3615

2012-03-02 02:18:00 | windows+D takes you out of metro So what's the short-cut key to minimise all windows then?

2012-03-02 02:36:00 | windows+D takes you out of metroYep, and windows Key (on its own) brings it back as well. I was referring to disabling it completely, so it boots directly into the windows desktop. If you want a "kind of start Button" move the pointer to the bottom left hand corner while in windows, you will get a thumbnail of metro, then right click and up pops the Kind of start options, computer, control panel etc.
