1261287 2012-02-25 21:44:00 Its called inconsiderate driving in the eyes of the law and can give you a ticket PeterQ (16315)
1261288 2012-02-25 23:20:00 If it's not the "law" as such that you're not allowed in the right lane unless passing, then why have I seen on one of the cop programmes (Motorway Patrol?) a cop flash his lights at a driver to get out of the right lane (and into the left) because he was going 90kmph or something.

Is there a law saying that you're only allowed in the right lane if you're doing the speed limit?

Not as far as I know, but there is a law against holding up traffic (if you're doing 60km/h on a 100km/h road you should let others pass).

1261290 2012-02-26 00:14:00 I'm with Peter q on this, driving along SH1 to Mckay's crossing is a pain, you get some doozy wellington chappie in his SUV trundling on the right and a chinese market gardener on the left in his old truck. Most of the time the truck and the SUV will be neck and neck doing 90 with everyone piled up behind. As soon as it merges over the bridge the SUV streaks ahead and off through paekakariki, had this last week. guy in a BMW SUV. Slowly on the right and he was doing 95 along the coast, a dangerous piece of road. It's 80 for a reason.

Also agree with the point someone raised about indicating and people not letting you in. Over in china you start pulling in and give a blast on the horn, people hear/see you coming and make space. if they dont make space they toot back chaos ensues and it all turns to ****, quite funny but Usually it works. In NZ the other drives stalk you until you are about to hit them, then apply brakes, horn and expletives.

1261291 2012-02-26 01:08:00 If car A (left lane) is neck to neck at 100KM/H with car B (right lane), car C (behind car B), car B needs to break the law in order to let car C pass ... you think car B wanna risk that?

This is not so annoying as .. those people who stop in the MIDDLE at give way/stop signs turning right !! , come on, have more courtesy, I always stop as far right as possible at give way/stop sign so that people behind me turning left doesn't need to wait for me.

1261292 2012-02-26 01:15:00 Car B should indicate his intension to go into car A lane so car C can overtake , common courtesy and you can go over the limit by alittle to pass PeterQ (16315)
1261293 2012-02-26 01:30:00 At 100km/h there should be no one overtaking you, so if Car C wants to overtake then they're going too fast. pcuser42 (130)
1261294 2012-02-26 01:34:00 Correct but if you want to go 110km/h so be it PeterQ (16315)
1261295 2012-02-26 03:35:00 Agree mostly error guy, the petone turn off is one that bugs me, I get in the left hand lane in plenty of time to turn off. Then you get some ****** come screaming up in the right hand lane expecting you to break so he can shoot the gap to the turn off, fortunately for me I can spot this ****** a mile away and adjust my speed accordingly so either he has to pull I behind or misses the exit all together. plod (107)

I do the same on the Southern motorway northbound on the Waitakere exit If I see some clown racing up on the right side I will boot it to keep up with him then start slowing down if he slows down so he cant take the exit. Teaches them a lesson that cutting people off with a high speed lane change is not kosher.
