1284882 2012-07-02 01:04:00 Give Office 2010 a go ( the trial), there may be no problems at all.

I just installed Publisher97 onto a workshop XP computer, and loaded up a default template/flyer, saved it and then opened it with no problems on Windows 7 with Publisher 2010 - see pics below.

3955 and opened in Office 2010 3956

It can't! One of hte many reasons why I now use open source at home and whenever I can at work.

Well, it looks like it can. As I would expect, Hardly difficult to support older files with newer software. I would have been quite surprised if it couldn't.

1284884 2012-07-02 01:56:00 If I remember correctly Publisher actually wasn't part of the Office programs but was an addon.
I see it is part of the Professional version.

Some had Publisher & others had Front Page. Front Page has been discontinued, so Publisher is included.

1284886 2012-07-02 08:33:00 I think Microsoft are trying to kill off Publisher by making it more & more expensive, but there is still a huge demand for it, so they keep updating it.

What is Publisher used for these days? (apart from opening old publisher files)

1284887 2012-07-02 09:27:00 I write the Club Newsletter with it. :)

Unless anyone can tell me of something better?

I don't know if it is better but Scribus is free so it can't do any harm to try it.

Scribus is great, I use it a lot when OODraw isn't enough. However it's at Adobe InDesign level and the learning curve is steep. Worth the effort though and there are heaps of good tutorials

1284890 2012-07-04 02:55:00 Ok - I'll have a look at it. :) R.M. (561)
1284891 2012-07-11 09:18:00 Right - I've been working with Scribus for the last few days. A bit slow to begin with, but I'm getting faster. :)

I am doing most of what I do in Publisher - but a few things aren't very intuitive to begin with - but that's the way with new things, isn't it?
