1283749 2012-06-25 22:48:00 It has an Nvidia GeForce 7950GT at the moment but I'm debating throwing that in my new build. I don't do any gaming on it, the most graphically intensive I get is Photoshop.

If you are using photoshop then you need to ditch the 7950GT and go for GeForce 8800GT or above as these support CUDA and used by Photoshop

1283750 2012-06-26 05:36:00 Tmrafi, If that was neccesary then i dont think AMD would have banners on their website advertising some deal with photoshop as amd cards obviously dont have CUDA and with photoshop you really dont need a powerfull gpu at all, in most cases just intel integrated gpu will be fine. Also CS5 does not nativly support CUDA however some plugins do. Slankydudl (16687)

Yep, there are CUDA plugins which enhance Photoshop CS5, and PremierePro CS5 supports CUDA natively.

CS6 supports OpenCL which both nVidia and AMD Cards support.

1283752 2012-06-27 07:18:00 But you don't *need* it. Good luck finding a 8800GT today. icow (15313)
1283753 2012-06-27 12:36:00 Yeah and the 8800GT's specs for CUDA are probably not worth the money. If my schools crappy dell mini computers can run photoshop CS5 fine then I think he should be alright. Slankydudl (16687)
1283754 2012-06-27 22:10:00 Hi all

Finally upgrading the old girl.

Will then retire my old PC out to a loving home but wondering where to pitch the price. Specs;

Core 2 Duo E8400
Gigabyte GA-EG43M-S2H mobo
4GB DDR2 800
Asus DVD-RW
5 x Hard Drives - 80GB, 160GB, 250GB, 500GB and 1TB (may split these up and keep a couple for external back up drives)
Coolermaster CM690 case
Silverstone ST50EF-Plus 500W PSU
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit (don't laugh - I never had any problems with Vista!)

All original manuals, discs etc included.

Where would you pitch it price wise?

Replacing with;

i5 3570k
8GB DDR3 1600
Asus P8Z77-V LK mobo
LiteOn iHBS212 Blu-ray writer
Crucial m4 128GB Solid State Drive
2 x 2TB Western Digital SATA Drive
Coolermaster CM690 II Advanced case
Enermax 750W PSU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Can't wait to build it up and have a play!

Thanks all.

You are getting an overclocking chip to use with a Mobo that uses onboard video, please tell me you have a discreet GPU to add to that, otherwise, give yourself an uppercut to the jaw!

1283755 2012-06-28 09:25:00 A discrete GPU will be a future upgrade - can't really justify it at the moment with the amount I have spent getting the new gear as it is and right now don't need the GPU for my current use - BUT - I plan on getting myself a nice GPU as soon as the bank account climbs a little bit so I can get back into some gaming at some stage.

Was considering throwing the 7950GT in there in the meantime but I think I may sell that with the old girl and run the onboard video for a while.

Have the new PC up and running - just got to get it just right software wise and transfer all my stuff from the old girl to the new girl then will see what I can get for the old build.

1283756 2012-07-08 01:05:00 Well I have decided that I will sell it as a unit including the following;

Core 2 Duo E8400
Gigabyte GA-EG43M-S2H mobo
4GB DDR2 800
Asus DVD-RW
2 x Hard Drives - 80GB, 160GB
GeForce 7950GT 512MB
Coolermaster CM690 case
Silverstone ST50EF-Plus 500W PSU
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit

Now for a fresh installation and updates and it will go on TradeMe.
