1283638 2012-06-25 05:13:00 Currently I haven't restarted since I got it back on 8th. Thats a possible cause. Windows updates for example come through all the time and some do need to have the PC restarted even if they dont prompt. Its possible that if this has happened then Nod may have gotten its downloaded modules damaged because of other installs needing a reboot.

The other problem is its "Vista" - it can be unstable and sometimes doesn't need much to break it.

As previously mentioned it was working OK and as expected when it was returned - something happened afterwards totally beyond my control.

Edited: something appears to have happened After this time:
11/6/2012 2.15am Eset Kernel Virus signature database successfully updated

As the articles you linked and Pctek suggested, uninstal it then reinstall it.

1283639 2012-06-25 07:49:00 So what happened in the end - if the your antivirus is fixed, is ekrun.exe still doing the memory leak? adslgeek (14687)
1283640 2012-06-25 11:00:00 Shut down and restarted computer just over an hour ago . Just before closing Resource monitor showed
Under Memory (physical memory) ekrn.exe, still at 1,971,320 kb (Commit) and used physical memory for comp at 91%
70 processes. Also just before closing cleared cache in NOD (dont know if totally necessary but some of the solution threads said that).
Restarted, then on NOD clicked Updated and manuallu started "update virus signature database" . It started striaight away, came back 10 mins later orange icon now green and under Log it says Virus update successful. ekrn.exe, now at 139,832 kb

So all it needed was a reboot. Didn't have to reinstall
Running full scan now only been a few mins and already up to 65%
Still dont know what they meant by a memory leak
Hopefully it will get through 2am tonight

1283641 2012-06-26 01:29:00 A restart will 'fix' many software glitches. (you'd be surprised)
Id restart it once a week , regardless.

1283642 2012-06-26 02:53:00 Thanks for that, yes will reboot now more often. Years ago my computer use to freeze etc and often had to reboot. Now it doesn’t happen so I go for extended periods without rebooting.

On another note the full scan I ran, NOD picked up and deleted 1 “infiltration”, it said it was the body of a virus. Defender which is still running didn’t pick up anything.
