1261753 2012-02-27 07:29:00 Problem for me is with my wrecked shoulder pretty much all the jobs at Winz are now beyond me, although I'm not on a benifit I am looking for a job and if I can't find anything soon I might have to apply for one.

As for the orchards all the ones down here in Nelson were fully staffed even before the Uni's finished last year as the bad weather made the harvest smaller so they needed less staff and this year as far as I can tell they haven't brought any overseas workers in. So even if I could do Orchard work there isn't anyYou have probably mentioned in the past, but why aren't you on acc?

1261755 2012-02-27 08:21:00 The fool is you, actually. Have you even BEEN in to see WINZ? They have STACKS of jobs, but right now people are afforded the right to decline them. Well it's time people suck it up and just go do something they might not particularly 100% enjoy!

I went in there, about 2 years ago before my previous job. Could have been a baker, a brick layer, and so much more. All with on the job training... But right now if you don't wanna get up at 4AM and be a baker, you're not forced to. Time for that to change. If you want a free handout, time to take the jobs they have on offer just so you put food on your own table, and not be picky about your free handouts.

It would be difficult for a woman on the dpb to start work at 4am if she has children under the age of 14, because it is a criminal offence to leave a child of that age alone. I'd say it was time that those dads stepped up to the plate and became responsible for their families.

True. But people still do it anyway.

If your desperate for a job then you won't be too fussy as to what you can do. Some people have good reasons to avoid certain jobs though.

1261758 2012-02-27 08:41:00 Although i hate children, i feel sorry for single mothers who will have to get jobs, I mean, how the hell are they gonna find something that pay's money within school hours.

When you minus the benefit money with school feels, child care etc... they are left with **** all to live on, even if they get a job.

My Partner worked part time for years at night, weekends and during school hour doing home help for acc and the district health board. Not glamorous or well paying jobs, but was enough to get us through.

1261760 2012-02-27 08:51:00 I seem to recall that if you going off the benefit and on a relatively low wage, you still may get some assistance that is weekly payment also there can be various grants or a advances....

Maybe they are moving away from a universal entitlement system. Just b/c you have child(ren) you are still expected to work like many parents who both work fulltime jobs or many single parents that work fulltime.

But I don't think they will force a single parent to work at 4am nor a person who may have a totally diff skillset.
