How much flak would they then cop for sending people in, no doubt people would cry "They weren't prepared enough when they were sent in", more bitching goes on in the media... Dont see any reasons why civvies cant do the same as long as they know the risks maybe even sign a waiver. Nothing fancy a vivid marker pen on a flattened out Winfield Red 25 ciggie packet I have been warned that I will probaly die if I enter the mine but I choose to go. Health and Safety has started to get stupid like in poverty rock a few weeks ago where fireman wouldnt go in ankle deep water to save a drowning kid.	prefect (6291)
1261476	2012-02-26 06:39:00	The point is that if you join a Mine Rescue Team you know the risks. You are not randomly selected and sent anywhere. The same as if you join the SAS or the SEALs or indeed any of the forces, you know the risks but are happy to back yourself. In this case the Mine Rescue Team was ready to go but were prevented from doing so by a Cop who knew nothing about the issues and the risks. The reality is that the Cop should have been working with the rescue team and if the team were happy to go in then he should have wished them luck and let them go. There is no point in having a trained Rescue Team if a prima donna cop is going to stop them operating.	B.M. (505)

Funny enough I'd trust the judement of any fireman over yours. With their training in search and rescue, firefighting, emergency responce, emergency rescue and just generally being legends in their own right, i somehow doubt their decision was based on whatever you percieve to be H&S.
