1261347 2012-02-27 23:06:00 On their website they are still selling at $299... :(

I'm looking for a second TiVo for the old CRT downstairs - but $199 is my price point.

1261349 2012-02-27 23:15:00 Does TIVO cost like sky? goodiesguy (15316)
1261350 2012-02-27 23:20:00 TiVo is just a Freeview box (with what I consider to be the best UI, and a 14 day EPG). Doesn't cost anything after the purchase price. johcar (6283)
1261351 2012-02-28 00:53:00 So why are the tivos not more popular? $300 is a good price for a freeview box that records 2 channels.

So it has to be connected to the net the whole time for the EPG to work? or can you just hook it up once a week, seems a bit weird it doesn't just get it over the airwaves like everyother freeview box

They F***ed up by tying their product to Telecom when it first launched & allowing Telecom to make it a really expensive, neutered system. It will take a huge advertising budget or a lot of time for people to forget that. Combined with the fact they don't support DLNA, anyone who asks their techie friend "should I buy a Tivo?" will be met with a resounding NO!.

So what do you recommend they buy??

1261356 2012-02-28 05:50:00 I recommend a Tivo, but most people will only remember the way it was when it launched. Greven (91)
