1262484 2012-03-06 23:12:00 MS could easily put back the start menu and it would shut a lot of complaints up - in other words, give the people what they want without having to resort to third party programs.

When using Microsoft products, resorting to 3rd party programs is tradition.

1262485 2012-03-07 06:41:00 Some good news for some here: in Windows Server 8, the desktop is the default interface :p pcuser42 (130)
1262486 2012-03-07 07:33:00 MS's attitude would seem to be that if your new shoes don't fit, chop off your toes, give up running and walking, make a few other sacrifices and sooner or later you will get used to it. ;)

They also seem to think that everyone is happy to waste lots of time learning each new iteration of their OS.

As far as I'm concerned it's just a way to waste productivity for every new user.

1262488 2012-03-09 12:47:00 Just a theory :D

Windows 8 in its time line is designed to be a failure ---- how you may ask ??

Spot the pattern & editions as they were produced (for the time it was) ;)

Win98 - Good

ME - Failure

XP - Good

Vista - Failure

Win 7 - Good (what Vista should have been)

Win 8 - Failure

Win 9 - Good ??? (Windows 8 as it should have been).

Pattern or what ?
That is just like not buying a new product from MS until it has hit version 3.

1262489 2012-03-09 13:07:00 It gets a big fat fail from me.
Windows still behaves like the big bully in the playground. I installed it on my second HD but it used the MBR on my main sata drive without even asking so I had to redo grub on there.
They also wanted too much Info on start-up. They weren't going to get another email addy from me or my phone number in case I forgot my password so I cancelled the whole process and doing the custom start-up there were items I couldn't disabled (they were greyed out) that I didn't want.

That's for signing in with a Windows Live account to syncronise settings across PCs, and of course, this is optional.

I learned long ago to unplug all drives except the one you are installing to, so that Windows can't do anything stupid. In fact I generally do that with all OS installations, just 'to be sure'.

How hard would it be for them to ask after all Linux has been doing it for the about 12 years I have been using it.
