27044 2001-12-09 01:32:00 If my motherboard has onboard video (yes I know get a proper graphics card) if I up the memory from 128MB to 256 or 384MB will the amount of memory that is shared for the video increase. At the moment 8MB is shared which leaves it with only 120MB of memory. Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-6VEML.

27045 2001-12-09 04:13:00 Unlikely. The amount of RAM 'shared' with the video system is usually set in the BIOS. 8Mb is often a maximum for an integrated video chip.

I have a Gigabyte motherboard and that was the case for me. Until I turned it all off and went with a 32Mb AGP card!

27046 2001-12-09 04:30:00 No, there should be an option in your system BIOS that lets you specify how much memory is allocated for video. If you install more RAM, and you want to increase the video memory, then find the setting in your BIOS and adjust it accordingly. Guest (0)
