Tonight I sent an email to a friend using his company email address. Shortly thereafter I received a return email from the company Postmaster saying,' An email with the subject 'Your address' has been found containing a VB Script and has been quarantined.' Question, What is VB Script and why is it being quarantined? To me this implies a virus..can anyone enlighten me please? Thanks |

VBScript is a programming language that virus writers sometimes use and so they can make them do whatever that want as they are just the same as a normal program and so can contain commands to format the hard drive, delete files, send email etc and so it could very easily be a virus and I would be suprised if it wasn't. |

Thank you Eli for your reply. I actually performed a full scan after posting the query and no viruses were reported with up-to-date virus defintions using Nortons 2000. |

You may know VB stands for Visual Basic. You did not mention if you sent an attachment with the Email. I don't think the address itself will contain a VBScript but an attachment may contain one. It is being quarantined because they can be very dangerous if used inappropiately. There is a strong likelyhood of it being a virus and so they don't want it running loose until you inform them that you sent it on purpose. |

Thanks Mike. No there was no attachment to this email. It was a straight request for the recipient to forward his new residential address. There was however some animations within the email - I was using the email programme- Incredimail-does that shed any light? |

I see you say in a message further down you use incredible mail and some of there animations. I don't think the animations require VB to run as I know someone with the same mail program and I know for fact there VB is disabled. VB can be disabled, PCWorld has had a couple of disable VB programs recently and I have a small freeware one as well if you want it email me, duckyduck@inet.net.nz and I will send it on to you. |
