27133 2001-12-09 10:38:00 Hi, I have a PII 333mhz with 64 MB. I recently added an external hard drive to my pc. I plugged everything in the correct places, the jumpers are set correctly.

However, the problem is that when I turned on the pc, the monitor is not displaying anything (i checked the cables and plugs).

Normally, when I turned on the pc, the hard drive LED will light up then the floppy disk drive light is on.
But this time, only the hard drive light is on and it remains like that.

Can you please tell me what might be the causes of this problem? Thanks you

27134 2001-12-09 11:47:00 Have you got the IDE cable pluged into the Hard Drive correctly?? Also try putting the Hard Drive on the secondary IDE cable or on the primary if it is already on the secondary. Guest (0)
27135 2001-12-10 06:00:00 The HD select light on all the time is a hint that the IDE cable is connected the wrong way around.

This will certainly stop the computer from booting. It has probably not damaged anything.

A hint: the pin 1 (red or black stripe on the cable) should be on the same side of the drive as the power connector.

There are two black plugs on the IDE cable, Is the middle a secondary or the end one?
