27377 2001-12-11 19:23:00 I want to be sure that a modem will always be switched off automatically between 5pm and 8am. The computer is used between 9am and 4pm and the users cant be trusted to remember to switch it off. The only thing I can think of is to set the modem to time out after 45 minutes. Is there a better way? The computer can remain on. Guest (0)
27378 2001-12-11 23:44:00 I assume by switch off you mean disconnect from the internet?

You can download freeware programs that will disconnect your modem at a specified time, I'm not sure about reconnecting though, you might have to do that manually, but it solves your problem of users not switching off at the end of the day.

I have a nifty little program called, (surpise!) SwitchOff. It disconnects me from the net at the specified time and will even shut down the computer if I so desire. Drop me an email: scott at zipmail.co.nz if you would like me to send you a copy (38k)!!

27379 2001-12-12 05:17:00 We had an ISDN line at work. Log in before 7am and it was cheap rate for the day, after that the higher rate. We put a power time switch on the router. Guest (0)
