2004-03-01 20:08:00 | Sorry to drag this thread up again, but you have me mystified, Godfather. I see dates with my thread map turned off. Don't miss any info apart from the thread map, in fact. So do PF1ers with the newest systems miss out on stuff we slow plodders are still getting? 98SE

The first couple of posts with the user name shown in black italics are old ones, you cannot see any Posted date stamp underneath their name, you can however see the original Posted date stamp in the thread map at the very top when you have that function turned on. > So do PF1ers with the newest systems miss out on > stuff we slow plodders are still getting? It has nothing to do with your system, merely how you have configured the forum to display for you under My Settings (click on button at top of page). I also have Thread Map on, plus View Mode flat as well as displaying 100 Topics per page and 50 messages per topic listing. I think you would also get benefit from turning on the View Mode Flat as this is something you have commented on in the past where new posts do not appear at the bottom of the thread. Turning the Flat mode on will ensure you can find the latest post with no troubles. :) Most regs to this forum have configured the settings to their personal preferences. |

2004-03-01 22:21:00 | Curiouser and curiouser..... Thanks for your reply Jen C. Unfortunately it deepens my mystification about what I am/should be seeing. Not that I'm complaining, as so far it looks as though I'm getting extra info- not less. But as my machine's unlikely to have any psychic capabilities, I guess we must be travelling different tracks. So just to make sure I haven't accidentally acquired a magic machine (One lost by Merlin perhaps?), I'll ask for your patience & explain more fully. Otherwise, I will continue to wonder.... My point was that I can see dates even with the thread map turned off. They're at the top of each individual post - and that also applies to the 3 old ones. No, they're not underneath names, but alongside them .In fact, the only difference apart from the italics is that nowadays it says how many, where from & when registered. Yes, I'm also configured for 100 Topics but changed from 50 to 100 Messages. I have the thread map off usually, but have only now switched to flat mode on your advice. Thanks for that. Maybe that's what makes a difference, not the threaded mode? But I don't know how to Save this to turn back & find out now.....

2004-03-01 22:32:00 | Yes, Gottit My mistake was merely turning off Threaded mode at the top of the page, rather than in Settings. Hadn't realised that doing that automatically changed it permanently back to Threaded in Settings. And now all is revealed....

2004-03-01 22:44:00 | Ah, I just whipped up some screenshots too as an example :D I will post them anyway, so that anyone else who might be confused about this can see what we were talking about :) View with Thread Map Off (sal.neoburn.net) View with Thread Map On (sal.neoburn.net) - in this one you can see from the table above it shows the date stamp in the Thread Map area, whilst you can not see this information underneath the users name in the actual post.

2004-03-02 01:04:00 | Well done Jen Thanks again for taking so much trouble. Yes, it was confusing - so just one more comment to save myself from accusations of "seeing things." Your screenshots are great, but because No. 1 was obviously made in Flat mode, it doesn't show the old date details I was seeing alongside names while assuming I had Threaded turned off. My original version was Threaded in Settings, but turned off on the page...hence the extra info. (Mind you, it might've been more fun to own a magic computer that could see things others couldn't...?)
