27735 2001-12-17 01:28:00 Hi, I got sent some spam, and when I opened Internet Explorer, the words 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' (in the blue bar right at the top) had been changed to 'http://funchina.126.com' how do I change that back?

Thanks

27736 2001-12-17 01:42:00 i can never remember the reg key for that. i use xsetup www.xteq.com to change the details.

also don't forget to go to windows update and plug the holes that script uses. also check the sircuity settings for internat and trusted sites.

27737 2001-12-17 02:28:00 To change it back to 'Microsoft Internet Explorer' start REGEDIT and find this address:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

and search through the list at the right for something like 'Title' (it'll have that funchina.126.com thing next to it) and delete the Title string (and NOTHING else)

or you could change the funchina thing to anything else you could want to put in the title bar if you so wish.

Hope this works

Mike.

27739 2001-12-17 11:10:00 In case this is an answer to your problem here is an extract from NZPC World June 2001 page 103:

DE-BRAND, RE-BRAND
Tired of having your browser window running an animated logo of an ISP you bailed out of last year?

All you do is choose Start*Run, then type rundll32.exe iedkcs32.dll,Clear in the Open field and press <Enter>

I think this puts it back to the default name, but if not you should be able to edit the name to whatever you want.

I am inexperienced so if there is anything wrong with the above perhaps others could reply and correct same for you.

27740 2001-12-18 01:01:00 I tried that x-setup program, as suggested, and also directly editing the registry as someone else suggested, and the title changed in the registry, but not in the title bar. I am running windows 98, and also I log on to the network with a username/password. would that make a difference?
Is there something else I can try?

27741 2001-12-18 11:02:00 Hi again Steve. Did you get your problem fixed? I tried to make a second posting to you yesterday for an alternative method but it didn't go through, so here it is again for what it is worth.

Without logging on to the net, click on the Internet Explorer icon in the taskbar at the bottom of the screen and choose Settings (instead of connect or work offline). Then choose the General Tab. In the upper of the three dialogue boxes, the Home Page one, click on the Use Default button, then on Apply at the foot of the page.

If it doesn't show the name that you want, you should be able to edit it to whatever you desire before clicking on apply.
