27659 2001-12-15 17:14:00 My wife purchased an Artec ViewStation AT6 at an auction for $40,it came with software, manuals and cable. We need to get an extra SCSI interface card put in to our computer, will this be cost effective considering the price of some new scanners?Cost? Our computer is a 650 Duron chip,256 ram,20 GB,shared graphics I think? We only use it for e-mails & hopefully to send some photos of our babies.Regards dockers. 27660 2001-12-15 20:40:00 Dear Colin ,

It __might__ not be the worth to buy a scsi interface card . They are quite cost-savvy and need quite tight selecting .If the scanner didn't come with the card , you might consider getting a low end (600x1200)usb scanner . However they might cost even more than a card + your scanner but it's convenient and is hot-swappable .Last words,
if the scanner you bought already at the auction ,
if it is 600x600 or more powerful ,get a scsi card.
If not , get a better 600x600 + usb or lpt-port one .

Merry Christmas.

You should not pay more than about $25 for a SCSI card for a scanner.

Be very careful about the SCSI type you get: there are 4 or 5 different sockets for external cables, depending on the type. A scanner will probably use DB25, C50, or mini DB50 connector (SCSI I or SCSI II). Your manual will tell you.
